Making Life Easier Around The House - Laundry Style

I'm always looking for better ways to go about things. Whether that's less expensive - don't we ALL want that??? - more organized, does a better job...well you get the picture. And when I find things like that, I love nothing more than to share it!

So in the spirit of all things better...here are a few for you to try out for yourself:

The Good Stuff
Homemade Laundry Soap

I have scoured the internet for all kinds of homemade recipes, including laundry detergent. I will admit, this wasn't the first recipe I tried. After all, it is trial and error, right? Well, let's just say the first trial was a total error! It involved cooking and waiting and waiting some more, then blending, and so on and so on. Moral of the story: it failed miserably for me.

So, I started searching for non-cook versions. The Tide I buy at the store doesn't seem to be previously cooked, so why on earth would I want to cook mine if I don't have to? (Oh, I'm all about saving time too - as long as you get the same result.)

I kept seeing a constant repetition of ingredients involving Borax, Fels Naptha, and Washing Soda. Thus, the reason I went for it. After some trial and error of my own to figure the appropriate proportions and amount to use per load, I have finally succeeded in what has turned out to be truly "The Good Stuff!" It's amazing! It cleans wonderfully, smells wonderfully, is super easy to make, costs under $2, and has no harmful chemicals or additives! I was also concerned about whether it would be an irritant for my husband's skin. He is extremely sensitive to most store-bought laundry detergents, which is why we were buying Tide. The original kind was the only thing that wouldn't give him a rash. NOT ANYMORE!!! I was oh so excited to find that he wasn't having any issues with "The Good Stuff"! Yes, he was my guinea pig, but hey, it worked, right? Hehe. This stuff is incredible! And yes, it works with HE washers as well. That's what I have, and I have had no issues.

  2. That's wonderful! So excited to hear what she thinks! I haven't used anything as of yet for furniture polish, but I do have a couple of recipes I'm going to be testing out this weekend, so I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I do. Let her know there are a few more homemade recipes coming too (an all-purpose cleaner, a stainless steel appliance cleaner, a bath and shower cleaner, wood floor cleaner, and tile cleaner.)
